Skin Protocol by Dr Bruce

Over many years of treating skin disease and conducting nutritional research, I have formulated a natural dietary protocol that assists and solves up to 80% of skin cases.

It targets the cause of the problem, not the symptoms. The protocol balances the immune system and provides the 76 macro and micronutrients required for optimum health. It ensures the dog or cat has the correct balance of essential fatty acids and antioxidants and boosts the probiotic levels in the gut. This natural and logical approach produces fantastic results.

The Protocol Science

Introducing a unique protein, like preservative-free kangaroo meat, venison, rabbit, duck, or lamb tripe, often provides a favorable biological response by reducing allergy causes. Dogs and cats are less sensitive to meat than previously exposed to. Preservative-free meat ensures that any potential reactions caused by this unnatural preserving process are removed.

Multi-strain probiotics significantly impact the digestive tract and the immune system. Modern immunology has shown us that a correct balance of probiotic bacteria directly impacts the immune system by correcting imbalances in T-helper cells, which can switch off inflammatory mediators that trigger allergic responses. Additional Omega 3 essential fatty acids can help to correct the imbalance of Omega 3: 6 rations, which exert a further anti-inflammatory effect on the immune system.

Additional dietary zinc can correct zinc deficiency, which can lead to chronic skin problems and fertility issues. However, zinc absorption can be impacted by diets that contain high levels of vegetable phytates (such as many commercial dry foods).

High-potency natural antioxidants like milk thistle, quercetin, green tea, beta carotene, and vitamin C provide essential micronutrients required to remove oxygen-free radicals produced in everyday metabolic processes. In animals with allergies, free radicals are produced in much greater amounts and are involved in " overheating " the skin. Additional dietary antioxidants can block this effect.

Immune-modulating ingredients like astragalus, perilla seed (classic Chinese herbs for the immune system), and colostrum (which provides a Transfer factor) directly impact the immune system's T-helper cells and correct imbalances resulting in pro-inflammatory states.

Cost of Skin Disease

The cost of skin disease can be immense. The discomfort to the dog or cat, the inconvenience and monetary expense of vet visits, and the side effects of drugs like cortisone make finding a solution an absolute priority. Over many years, I've dealt with dog owners who have spent thousands of dollars trying to solve the discomfort their dog or cat faces every day. My simple natural and holistic dietary and supplement solution has often ended their discomfort and provided ongoing relief. Their general health, condition, and well-being will also improve.

The Skin Support Protocol

The Program lasts 6-8 weeks, and then a simplified diet is continued long-term. All three steps are recommended to ensure the best results. However, using one or two products will often get results for mild cases, remembering that diet is most important.

  1. Following the feeding chart, measure the daily allowance of Lenny's Kitchen Muesli, add warm tap water, and soak for 5 minutes.
  2. Weigh and add recommended meat to Muesli.
  3. Add Lenny’s Kitchen Skin & Digestion Natural Support Supplement and Flax Seed Oil*. Use ¼ doses of Flax Seed Oil for the first two days, progress to ½ doses for the next two days, and then progress to a total daily dose.

Recommend Full Daily Dose-Supplements

Skin & Digestion Natural Support-5g (1 level teaspoon) per 10kg bodyweight

Flax Seed Oil*-5ml (1 teaspoon) per 5kg bodyweight

*for a more potent option, we recommend Greenpet Omega Plus Oil (greenpet.com.au)

After 6 to 8 weeks, gradually stop the supplements, one at a time and at least a week apart. Some severe cases need ongoing supplementation to control all the signs of the allergy fully. If the problem persists, see your veterinarian or contact Lenny's Kitchen.

Pets changing from a processed diet to raw food will often experience detoxification (the liver releases stored toxins) after about 3 to 4 weeks on the new diet. This can worsen allergy signs for a week or so, but do not despair; this can be the start of a long-term improvement.

Do not wash the Pet with soap or medicated washes during the 6-8 week program. Shampoos can strip the natural oils from the coat, cause further itching, and imbalance the natural micro-flora on the skin. If washing is needed, do an oat milk rinse. (recipe in blog)

Do not feed Pet treats/chews during the initial 6-8 week period of diet change, as many treats contain artificial colors, flavors, and additives that can trigger allergic reactions. Feeding raw bones is a good health practice for all pets. Use kangaroo bones, e.g., roo tails, only for 6-8 weeks. Choose only fresh meaty bones (not dried), which are usually available frozen from most Pet retailers.

The Skin Protocol evolved from my frustration with how skin disease was treated. This natural, logical, and scientific approach continues to satisfy the needs of veterinary practitioners and dog owners alike.

I encourage you to give it a try.
